May Giveaway Day

It's May Giveaway Day at Chimera Threads. Thank you Sew Mama Sew!Blog for coordinating this event. It sounded like to much fun to miss out on. Sew here are the details for participating on this blog. I am going to give away a treasure bag. It will, of course, have a treasure or two or more in it. To qualify for the treasure please either comment on ways I can improve my tutorial (previous post) or what is your favorite thing about craft type blogs. By this, I mean do you like seeing what others are making, or are you looking for good ideas or inspiration, etc. You get the idea. I am trying to improve my blogging skills. Only meaningful comments, please. I will randomly pick an appropriate comment the morning of June 1st. I am willing to ship internationally as I love getting international mail. I will accept comments from this post and the previous post (treasure bag tutorial).

Hope this is of some help

Your bags are very cute. I enjoy reading craft blogs to get ideas and see what I can aspire to. I am a so-so sewer (I do lots of stitch ripping before my projects are completed!!) and love to see other people's creations. Tutorials are wonderful for those of us who don't have 'polished' skills or the creativity, vision or time to come up with our own ideas!!

What cute lil bags - love the fabric!

Personally, I love to see what others are making, even if it isn't a tutorial, just to have a glimpse into anothers creative space is very inspirational and can really help with the creative process.

Upon saying that tho, I do love tutorials, even if they are very basic, they are a great launching pad.

Michele said...

I visit craft blogs mainly for inspiration. I also enjoy tutorials.

Great treasure bag. I think your tutorial is very good. Tutorials are my favorite part of craft blogs - it's great when people share their talents! Thanks for the opportunity!

My favourite thing about craft blogs is that they inspire me to craft - they don't have to have tutorials, although those are nice, but I do like general comments about what works and what doesn't.

Christina said...

I cannot believe I am finally first on one of these! I read a lot of craft blogs, and the thing that always gets me are the very detailed pictures. That is exactly what I am looking for when I'm trying something new. I also think the quality of pictures is important - I always go back to blogs where things are well-lit and photographed in appealing surroundings. It puts me in a crafty mood!

hana.k said...

Hello! I really enjoy seeing craft blogs for their inspiration, but also it's a glimpse into different people's lives and it shows through how they write or how they show what they do or what they make. It just puts me into a more creative mood and it's just a good feeling every time.

I love your little treasure bags - the colours (and the photos) just make me want one!

My favorite thing about craft blogs are the tutorials. In particular, tutorials that have pictures and step by step instructions, but I especially love it when the tutorials are very general, or have lots of additional suggestions.. leaving us readers to make whatever changes we feel the creative urge to make :) Like different fabrics, different sizes, etc..

Great bags! I love how small they are! They would be perfect for Secret Who/Whatevers in the work place or for toddlers to take treasures/snacks on road trips.
I like to read crafty blogs for inspiration. Inspiration for colors, color combination, fabrics and projects. Your tutorial was short and sweet. I liked it and bookmarked it! I really liked how you used black thread to show where the stitches were! Great idea. I have only seen that a couple times.

I really like your treasure bag tut. It was very clear. That is really what I like about crafty blogs. The free tuts are really nice. Especially, when money is tight. I hardly ever by a patter any more because I know someone out there has done a tutorial on it. It is so great for people to share! Thanks for the giveaway.

bellsjo said...

Oh these bags are wonderful and your tutorial great - I will be back to have a go making one! I have just written my very first tutorial for the giveaway I am hosting but I think that yours is better and the pictures are really nice. The only thing I could think on to improve is typing the written notes on one of the pictures to make them a bit clearer, or make them a bit larger so they are easier to read. I know you asked for constructive feedback but I feel so bad criticising even a bit when you have been kind enough to write us a tutorial in the first place!

britt said...

i love seeing other creations. and it makes me want to make more things. they are so inspirational. i always think... well i never thought to put that together or to do that with a certain material. the blog world is astounding.

I love seeing what others are crafting. I've been AMAZED and HUMBLED at how talented so many others are, and surprised that they don't realize the value of their art. I know the majority of us crafters put love into everything we do, and it's wonderful to see what people come up with. I love your treasure bags!

LillyShayStyle said...

Such beautiful bags, I have my fingers crossed!
I love looking at crafty blogs for many reasons. I find so many things that I'd never considered before and thus, learn new crafts. I get inspirations for my next project. I've even learned to crochet by watching some blogs and was totally inspired by blogs.
I love finding tutorials more than anything. I hope to try every craft at least once before I pass on. Interesting blogs will help me to acheive this goal.

Anonymous said...

Such cute little bags! I could use them for all sorts of things!

I love craft blogs to see what other people are making (doing crafty things I don't know how to do, like crochet and felt, etc). And I love the sewing/quilting craft blogs for all the inspiration, fabric envy and great tutorials. I have a list in my head and in my favorites of the million things I want to try!

Jingle said...

Your tutorial looks excellent! My only suggestion, and I'm not sure that it was really needed for this particular one, would be to add hand shots of you actually 'doing' some actions because sometimes that part is harder to figure out than it seems! LOL! I love crafty blogs because they inspire me to try new things!

Our Family said...

My favorite thing about crafty type blogs is tutorials by real people who've figured it out before me (cuz I'm clueless with patterns), and INSPIRATION. I get SO many ideas from crafty blogs, and I adore that there are now so many hand mades in my own home.
Thanks for the offer!

Anonymous said...

Your bags are adorable! The tutorial is well done, but if you are going to have written instructions in some of the photos make sure you write in large print.

I love looking at other blogs for information, for instance tips and tricks, as well as inspiration. Some people use fabric that I would have never taken a second look at and yet I love the finished project.

Adventures said...

I love seeing what others are making and it helps me to get inspired to make more creative stuff.

I agree with the people who say pictures make a big difference. There are times when it's hard to explain which way you've laid something or folded it and the picture really shows exactly what's going on. Also, being new to crafting and sewing, I love reading crafty blogs to see what's possible. It's great to feel like you can create something beautiful even when you are just beginning :)

I like to go to blogs to see what others are making, to see the colors being used-these give me inspiration and help keep me up-to-date (since I am 60). I always love to see the work other people make, I also love tutorials and the most important thing (at least for me) is that it has step by step pictures to guide you if you don't get the whole explanation.
I also love to see the fabrics people buy and I love when they tell the name of the fabric and the collection, so that way I can chase it around the net if I like it to buy it for myself. Otherwise I go nuts!
Thank you for the giveaway and the chance to win!

What sweet bags! Your tutorial was in my opinion perfect! I really appreciate how you laid the fabric on a piece of paper with the infromation right next to it, I have a hard time when there are words and and I can't figure out what they mean in relation to the picture!

I enjoy getting to see what other people make and the process they went through--did they come up with their own design, was it based on something else (with a link), where do they find inspiration.

Those cute bags would be a gift in themselves, even without anything inside. I think it is great that on your tutorial you used the black thread -- really helps the reader to see where you stitched! Great work.

I like to read & see what others are making, where they get patterns from & helpful tips from disasters they may have had.
Thanks!

Adorable bags, I can't wait to try the tutorial. I'd love to win one, too. I love seeing things other people make and I love tutorials. I also love seeing fabric stashes and beautiful pictures!

I love tutorials (like yours!), so that's what I most love about craft blogs. I also like seeing what others have made that gives me an idea 1) how the finished product looks, and 2) what fabrics and color combos work best together.

I enjoy reading craft blogs to find new ideas and admire what other people have made.
I always keep my notepad beside me to jot down ideas for later use. It's been filling up fast today!

Super cute bags! I've seen them around and was having trouble figuring out how to get the drawstring in the middle instead of the top of the bag, so thanks for the tutorial! And duh, I can't believe I hadn't figured out to clip the circle part on my own. Had to sew a circle on the bottom of a bunny and I think it would have been much easier if I had clipped.

Anyway, I almost always start at a blog looking for inspiration -- something to make me go to my sewing room and get working! Once it's in my google-reader though, I tend to be more interested in the person and want to see pics of their kids, etc.

When I look at blogs I want to see what other people are doing, it give me inspiration! Not always do I need a step by step, but sometimes that is nice. I really just like to take someone's idea and make it my own!!!

I like to see what people are working on. I know not every day can be a finished project, so I like it when people link to the pattern designer's website (if there is one), or the fabric designer. I also like it when people add stuff that's not necessarily craft related, or outside their norm. Like, if it's a sewing blog, but they worked on a knitting pattern. Or a new book they've read. Or a celebrity gossip site or something. Thanks for the great giveaway!

I really like your treasure bags! Thanks for the great tute. I've bookmarked it already.

I visit craft blogs for inspiration and tutorials. While I've been browsing through the list from SMS, I've seen dozens of projects I'd like to do. (This is not good! I already have dozens of projects in progress!!!)

Thanks for the chance to enter your giveaway!

Collette said...

These treasure bags are great and I think the tutorial is clear and well-written. One of the things that's helpful to me when working on a tutorial is that the steps are numbered so that each step is clearly defined. And that's a personal preference only. Just an idea!

Unknown said...

Oh, those are adorable!! Thanks for the chance to win one! My favorite tutorials are ones for fairly simple things! My crafting time is severely limited, and my skills are kind of "entry level". So, things I can do quickly that don't require a great deal of crafting know how are great!!!

The thing I like most about looking at crafty blogs is wallowing in the fact that I'm really not that talented or creative! LOL!! J/K, I like to see what others are doing, I like the idea of knowing there are people out there with a specific set of skills, that everything we buy doesn't have to be mechanized and mass produced!

Hugs & Blessings!

I prefer making things I need over buying them, especially if I can make them better and less expensively. So, I like searching online for tutorials that show me how. Your treasure bag tutorial is very clear and well written. Also, your bags are so cute. I also enjoy seeing what others make to get inspiration, because I do not consider myself to be very creative. Crafty yes, creative no.

I like craft blogs for creative inspiration -- and a way for relaxation.

The tutorial looks great. Without sitting down and making it, I didn't see any flaws in it.

I love blogs because I love to see what others are making and it gives me inspiration on what I could try to make next.

I sure love tuts! I really like all the inspiration too, but I'm a visual kinda person, and just writing leaves me clueless sometimes. With pics, like for your treasure bag, it's just so simple!

pinecone304 said...

A tip for your tutorial, the black writing in one of the pictures was hard to read. But what a great project!! Thanks for including me.

I love these little bags!!! I"m going to try to make one right now, I think!
Your directions look great. The place where I stumbled was with "stay stitching." I've never heard of that before, but after studying the photo and thinking through your plans, it made more sense. A quick parenthetical explanation might solve the confusion for newbies like me.

THanks for the tutorial! (And the give-away.) What a great idea for gift bags...

I like looking at different things people make for inspiration and to work on my sewing skills. There has been more than one zipper/bias/french seam tute out there that has helped me in my adventures!
I think your treasure bag tutorial is very well done!
